Question 1

Accepted Answer

Today is 8 Paopi 6268 in the Gebti (Egyptian) calendar. The month in Modern Egyptian Arabic is بابه. The Gebti calendar uses Coptic month names with the full ancient Egyptian year count (Gebti year = Coptic year + 4525).

Question 2

What is the difference between the Gebti Calendar and the Coptic Calendar?

Accepted Answer

Both calendars share the same 13 month names, the same structure (12 × 30-day months plus a 13th intercalary month), and the same leap-year rule. They differ only in the year count: the Gebti Calendar uses the ancient Egyptian era (Gebti year = Coptic year + 4525), while the Coptic Calendar uses the Christian era (Anno Martyrum, starting 284 AD). Today is year 6268 in the Gebti calendar and year 1743 in the Coptic calendar.

Question 3

What is the Gebti Calendar?

Accepted Answer

The Gebti Calendar is the ancient Egyptian calendar presented with the 13 Coptic month names and the full ancient Egyptian year count. "Gebti" (جيبتي) is the Arabic word for "Coptic" and "Egyptian" — and the etymological root of the word "Egypt" (ancient Egyptian: Kemet → Coptic: Kīmi → Arabic: Qibṭ → English: Egypt). The Gebti year equals the Coptic year plus 4525.

Accepted Answer

The Gebti (Egyptian) calendar has 13 months: Thout (توت), Paopi (بابه), Hathor (هاتور), Kiahk (كيهك), Tobi (طوبه), Meshir (أمشير), Paremhat (برمهات), Paremoude (برموده), Pashons (بشنس), Paoni (بؤونه), Epip (أبيب), Mesori (مسرى), and Pi Kogi Enavot (النسيء) — an intercalary month of 5 days (6 in leap years).

Question 5

What is Kemet?

Accepted Answer

Kemet (كيمت) is the ancient Egyptian name for Egypt, meaning "the Black Land" — referring to the fertile dark soil of the Nile valley. The Gebti Calendar is rooted in the Kemetic timekeeping tradition of ancient Egypt and preserves the Kemetic year count.
